Abstract
Danio rerio has become an important animal model used in various types of
research, thus the need arose to create and maintain healthy colonies in vivariums
and has become fundamental to learn about the factors that influence the
reproduction of these species. D. rerio is a gregarious fish that has sexual
dimorphism, smell plays a number of roles in the mating process. Visual stimuli affect
the choice of mates for mating. The reproduction of D. rerio is complex and can be
influenced by a number of factors. Water salinity affects fertilization rates, survival
and development of embryos and larvae. When the pH moves away from the neutral
pH (pH = 7) it can cause changes in the mortality rate and hatching time as well as
cause malformation. Photoperiod is crucial for successful spawning because it
modulates the internal clock of this species. Another important factor is the
temperature, which influences the proportion of females and males. Diet is also
something that must be considered in the reproduction of D. rerio, since it is known
that the composition of the feed given to the animals affects the reproductive
performance of the animals. The knowledge we have about the reproduction of D.
rerio is of great relevance, we must continue studying this topic so that we will be
able to continue the process of improving the techniques and methods of rearing D.
rerio in vivariums.
Abstract in Portuguese
O Danio rerio se tornou um importante modelo animal utilizado em diversos tipos de
pesquisas, sendo assim surgiu a necessidade de criar e manter colônias saudáveis
nos biotérios e conhecer sobre os fatores que influenciam na reprodução dessa
espécie passou a ser fundamental. O D. rerio é peixe gregário que possui
dimorfismo sexual, o olfato exerce uma série de papeis no processo de
acasalamento. Estímulos visuais afetam a escolha de parceiros para acasalamento.
A reprodução do D. rerio é algo complexo e pode ser influenciada por uma série de
fatores. A salinidade da água afeta as taxas de fertilização, sobrevivência e o
desenvolvimento dos embriões e larvas. O pH que quando se distancia do pH neutro
(pH = 7) pode causar alterações na taxa de mortalidade e no tempo de eclosão
assim como causar má-formação. O fotoperíodo é crucial para uma desova bem-
sucedida pois ele modula o relógio interno do D. rerio. Outro fator importante é a
temperatura que influencia a proporção de fêmeas e de machos. A dieta também é
algo que deve ser considerado na reprodução de D. rerio visto que é conhecido que
a composição do alimento fornecido aos animais afeta o desempenho reprodutivo
dos animais. O conhecimento que nós possuímos sobre a reprodução do D. rerio é
de grande relevância, devemos continuar estudando este tópico pois assim vamos
ser capazes de continuar o processo de aprimoramento das técnicas e métodos da
criação do D. rerio em biotérios.
